Vision 1829
Who are we?
We are a group of 3rd year students at King’s College studying Culture, Media and Creative Industries (CMCI) who throughout their studies have always wondered how the institution has gained the prestigious and honorable reputation it has; even being ‘ranked 6th nationally in the ‘power’ ranking by Research Excellence Framework in 2014’, as our collective experience has not exactly reflected this viewpoint.
This led to researching into the history of King’s and how it was able to establish itself to be so renowned, uncovering a dark, sinister history that we believe has been strategically concealed while still being tangled right in front of our faces.
Hence, came the incentive for the project, Vision 1829, a way in which to open up discussions by informing others, displaying vital information that King’s fails to properly acknowledge.
What should you expect?
Expect to gain an insight into the unsettling past of King’s, in the hopes of reshaping its future. Brandalism and subvertising will be utilized with the aim to shine light on King’s problematic doings, through the use of archives, personal experiences, photography and posters.
This exhibition highlights the concept of the key being in the details, don’t always take everything at face value, take a closer look and you’ll see the truth that has been glossed over for far too long.
