Reflections of Multi-Selves

The Second Annual CMCI Winter Festival

About Us

For the second annual Culture, Media & Creative Industries (CMCI) Winter Festival, we chose the theme, Reflections of Multi-Selves, to reflect the multiplicitous identities, ideas, and media that will be explored through the 15 events CMCI students have organised. From Vision 1829’s daring multi-media exhibition about the neo-colonial and neoliberal sentiments that still haunt King’s College London’s branding to Emotion Spectrum's artistic workshop focusing on expressing emotions through visuals, we hope people will gain new angles of multiple cultures, identities, and ideologies that coexist without being told what is right/wrong to feel and think from our festival.

As such, we envision creating an experience of non-hierarchical, non-linear, “rhizomatic” (Deleuze and Guattari, 1987) existence for the audience during the festival. In other words, we aim to de-centre the notions of mono-perspective and hierarchical thinking that still silently inhabit our cultures by emphasising the multiplicity of our course through this festival. In order to achieve such an ambitious vision, we implement a respectful, flat, multi-perspective organisational model in the production of the festival. Moreover, we encourage the audience to interact with the events (and the organisers) outwardly and reflect on themselves inwardly.

At Reflections of Multi-Selves, we've always been driven by the belief that diversity is our strength, and unity in our differences creates a more vibrant tapestry of humanity. This year, as we gear up for an incredible festival celebrating these principles, we are beyond thrilled to announce our partnership with Reformation Charity for the opening ceremony.

Why Reformation Charity? Simple - because they embody the spirit of positive transformation that aligns seamlessly with our festival's mission. Their commitment to meaningful change, community empowerment, and social justice resonates deeply with us.

In joining forces, we envision not just an event but a movement. Together with Reformation Charity, we're dedicating our platform to spotlight critical causes, rallying our community to contribute to something larger than ourselves.

Events

During the festival between the 6th and 8th of December, you can expect to experience a wide range of activities and showcases that echo the plurality of the festival. Workshop-based events such as Child's Play, Colours of Compassion, and Weave it: Tapestry of Identities will invite you to be the creator and reflect on your own life story. On the other hand, exhibitions like Lessons on Love, Vision 1829, and The otHer intend to instigate fruitful discussions about topics ranging from gender, identity and neo-colonialism. Additionally, some events are dedicated to supporting aspiring artists. For instance, the exhibition Fruits of Labour will showcase young artists' artworks while encouraging them to meet their peers. Similarly, Bridging the Gap aspires to bring young filmmakers from Los Angeles, London, and beyond together and screen their short films. Through our eclectic collection of events and displays, we hope to create a multi-perspective festival that mirrors the plurality of our cultures.
